"Fantastic Mr. Fox" is based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl and has been updated into Wes Anderson's latest release.  After years of stealing poultry from his neighbors, Mr. Fox is trying to stop his wild and rebellious ways and become a responsible father.  But when the farmers that Mr. Fox steals get fed up, they plot to kill Mr. Fox.  In order to keep food on his family’s table, Mr. Fox ensues the help of his wife and children to outsmart the murderous farmers.  Anderson, who is known for his poetic and zany humor and meticulous attention to detail, uses stop-motion to tell a children’s story to an audience of both children and adults.  While stop-motion may be a new medium for Anderson, the "Fantastic Mr. Fox" still contains the story, dialogue, mise-en-scene and whimsical components Anderson in known for.  Thanks to stop-motion Anderson is able to control nearly every element which is more challenging in shooting live action.  The film provides a look inside Anderson’s creative mind as the stop-motion allows him to exemplify his detail-obsessed filmmaking style and create a fictional world just as he envisioned.  As a result of the medium the mise-en-scene is rather, well, fantastic.  The film features the voices of Anderson film regulars Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman as well as some new additions such as George Clooney and Meryl Streep. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is clever and witty just as you would expect. ~ Shivon Van Allen
